How to serve MapTiler Data from MapTiler Server
This article describes how to serve a MapTiler Data extract with a MapTiler Server. It covers the complete workflow from selecting an area of interest, downloading the data, and publishing it via MapTiler Server.
There is a starter package of sample data available at the MapTiler Website. If you’d like to have everything set up in the same way as me, follow the installation video to set up your instance first. Let’s begin!
- Go to MapTiler Data
- Select the Download tab and look for the area that you’re interested in (e.g., Nigeria).
- Choose OpenStreetMap Vector tiles.
- Double-check that you have selected the right area by clicking on Preview.
- Download the data extract.
- You can download OpenStreetMap Vector from 2020 for free.
- If you need up-to-date data, select commercial use options. For testing, select free data.
- After downloading, just drag and drop it into map in MapTiler Server or into the root folder.
- Click Rescan. And change the ID of the demo OpenMapTiles data to avoid naming conflicts.
- Click Rescan again.
- Open Data source. There is more detail on higher Zoom levels for Nigeria than for the rest of the world.
- Change the ID of tileset to MapTiler OpenMapTiles to make this the main production data source in MapTiler Server, which will use it in the map Style. All maps in production will show details for Nigeria but not for the rest of the world.
