Create a vector data file
This page belongs to a tutorial that explains how to use our Vector data editor to create custom vector features (points, lines, polygons) and how to add these features to a map.
1. Create a vector data file 👉 2. Add and edit features 👉 3. Use the dataset
First of all, you need to prepare a file for your vector features. You can either start by creating a new file, or upload an existing one.
Create a new file
To start from scratch and open a blank file, simply click here, or follow these steps:
- Go to page Data in your MapTiler account.
- Click on the little arrow on the button New dataset and select Create blank dataset.
Upload existing file
You can also start with an existing file. See formats and size limits to learn which files are supported by the editor. If your file is compliant, upload it:
- Go to page Data in your MapTiler account and click New dataset.
- Drag and drop your file onto the screen, or browse your computer. After a successful upload, you’ll see details and a preview of your vector features.
- Click on Edit dataset to open the file in the vector data editor.
Next step
When you have a vector data file ready in the editor, you can start adding and editing features.
