2026-02: Georeferencing in cloud
We’ve added the ability to georeference images directly in your browser. Previously, files without location metadata required pre-processing with MapTiler Engine. Now you can manually assign coordinates to any supported raster file and process it into map tiles within your MapTiler account.

2026-01: Style individual buildings
We’re introducing an easier option to style and highlight individual buildings in your maps. Previously, this required manual style JSON editing; now you can use the visual interface. The functionality is powered by the new Buildings tileset which includes unique building IDs and metadata, making it possible to filter out specific structures for styling.

2025-11: New generation of MapTiler maps
We’re releasing MapTiler Planet v4 as the new data backbone for our maps, officially replacing MapTiler Planet v3. Related to that, we’re introducing new versions of our maps, built and optimized specifically for Planet v4.
- Changes in your account: Within your MapTiler account, updated maps and tilesets are now labeled as
newand the older ones asdeprecated. Some older tilesets or map styles may no longer be listed at all. - Functionality of deprecated maps: All older (deprecated) map styles remain fully functional, so any maps you’ve already implemented are safe. However, please note that there won’t be no further maintenance except critical bug fixes.
- Updates of deprecated data: Older maps (v2, v3) and their data sources continue to get standard bi-weekly data updates. Any change in long-term support of previous generations of maps and data will be announced well ahead.
- Backward compatibility: Due to different internal data structure, the new Planet v4 dataset is not compatible with older map styles, and Planet v3 is not compatible with new map styles. This means that simple upgrading of older maps to Planet v4 isn’t possible.
- New map implementations: For all new projects, we strongly recommend using the latest datasets and map styles. They’ll be now getting the most love, careful maintenance, improvements, and features unavailable in previous versions.
