# Hillshading

Global shaded relief uses digital elevation models (DEMs) to generate shades based on light sources. It is generated up to medium resolution, where it can be replaced by [Terrain RGB](https://docs.maptiler.com/schema-raster/terrain-rgb/) hillshading methods.
