# What is a Multi-license and when you need it

## When do you need a multi-license?

Multi-license is a yearly fee that is required in these cases:

-   Your products or services containing the map data are targeting other legal entities (companies/institutions).
-   You plan to run a traditional commercial map tile hosting service.
-   You need to redistribute the map data as it is, then you need the multi-license which can be provided with a significant volume discount. And similar.

## How is the fee calculated?

The fee is being calculated from the use case specifics and the number of such legal entities in the respective next 12 months. We welcome such applications but please, send these details to [sales@maptiler.com](mailto:sales@maptiler.com) first, and we will provide you with the price offer.

Multi-license can be acquired together with the On-Prem Custom production package only.

Typical examples when Multi-license is required:

-   _Our maps appear in services, websites or products of a third party (your client)._
-   _Our maps are used in the internal system of another legal entity (your client)._
-   _You do the on-premise installation of the maps at your client’s place, bundle or redistribute our maps with your software, or operate hosting._
