# Map data by MapTiler

All [map data](https://docs.maptiler.com/guides/how-maps-work/map-data/) provided by MapTiler comes in **tilesets**. We use them ourselves to build the selection of [ready-made maps](https://cloud.maptiler.com/maps/) for you, so you can simply [pick and use any of them](https://docs.maptiler.com/guides/using-map/) as-is.

In case you’re building a specialized map, it can happen that none of our ready-made maps precisely match your needs. In that case, you can **enrich a ready-made map** with data from [additional tilesets](https://cloud.maptiler.com/tiles/) and combine them to get the exact result you want. Expert users can even build their own map style using our tilesets. For that purpose, you’ll need advanced information available in this section.

## Data updates

Each of our tilesets has a different update schedule. The main tilesets that contain a lot of changing details are updated every 2 weeks, others less frequently or ad hoc. To get the exact date of the last update, go to [page **Tiles**](https://cloud.maptiler.com/tiles/), click on the tileset you’re interested in, and check the section **Tileset details**.

## Data for download

Most of our professional tilesets are also available for [self-hosting](https://docs.maptiler.com/guides/on-prem/server/). You can get a standard package for a specific country or the whole world, or select your own **custom extract** to get exactly the part you need.
