# Add your data to the map

Once you have [selected a ready-made map](https://docs.maptiler.com/guides/using-map/), you’ll most likely want to show something in it: the location of your shop, trail you’ve trekked, visualization of a future building, weather forecast… Whatever you want to share with the world, we have tools and services to help you prepare the data and put it on the map. Pick the type of data you want to add and get started!

## Add points

Points represent single spots on a map, like office locations, stops on your hike, places of historic events etc. You can style them as standard map markers (pins), colored dots, icons, and in many other ways.

![Add lines](./img/lines.webp)

## Add lines

Lines are typically used for paths, trails, and routes tracked with a GPS device. It’s also possible to use them to show wires and pipes on a map. Lines can be added to a map visibly, or used for route animations.

## Add polygons

Polygons are enclosed lines marking a specific area: a forest, lake, historical or construction site, house with garden… They’re useful for example to highlight a property for sale on a map.

![Add images (overlay)](./img/image-overlay.webp)

## Add images (overlay)

Images can be photos from drone, architectural CAD drawings, scanned historical paper maps, and many other types. Add your images as an overlay to complement a suitable basemap, or cover it completely.

[

![Add a simple 3D model](./img/3d-model.webp)

## Add a simple 3D model

Looking to add a 3D object to your map? Simple models in GLB/glTF format are a good choice with animation support. Note that you need to use a ready-made model accessible from a public URL.

[

![Add a realistic 3D scene](https://docs.maptiler.com/guides/geosplats/img/geosplats-example.webp)

## Add a realistic 3D scene

To create large-scale 3D models of entire cities, use **GeoSplats**. They look super realistic and use modern WebGPU technology for fast rendering. We provide both hosting and processing for your splat data.

![Add weather data](./img/weather.webp)

## Add weather data

Weather data is a special type of dynamic data describing atmospheric conditions such as temperature, humidity, precipitation, wind, and so on. You can buy quality weather data from us, or prep and use your own.

![Add a video](./img/video-overlay.webp)

## Add a video

On top of the possibility to add images, you can even make your maps alive with a video overlay.
